When development begins where experience is no longer enough

With the completion of the current C-Management group at Daimler Truck, it is not simply a training course that comes to an end. Rather, it marks a development process that goes far beyond traditional sales training – towards personal mindset, leadership capability and market orientation.

Eleven participants from Germany and Austria – including senior leaders responsible for several hundred employees – completed the programme in full. Many started with a clear understanding of their role, yet in hindsight, one thing stands out: nine out of eleven would not have expected the extent of development possible. That is precisely where the strength of this format lies.

Three levels of successful sales development

The Certified Management Programme, developed specifically for Daimler Truck, does not follow a linear “sales training” approach. Instead, it is built on a clear development logic across three interconnected levels:

  • Leading Yourself – self-reflection, mindset and personal impact
  • Leading Others – communication, leadership and relationship-building
  • Leading the Business – market understanding, strategic and entrepreneurial thinking

These levels are interdependent: modern leadership today is not just about being a superior, but about making complexity tangible, providing direction and enabling decisions.

Learning rooted in reality

In close collaboration with Daimler Truck, a programme format has been developed and rolled out globally.

The learning architecture combines digital and in-person formats into a continuous development journey:

  • Digital preparation with e-trainings, virtual classrooms and online workshops
  • Ongoing individual coaching in various formats
  • Two in-person camps in the Munich area, focused on practical work across the three core pillars
  • Final certification through a “six-eye” discussion with a psychologist and a member of the training team, practical and personal in nature

From knowledge to mindset

What participants describe in their feedback is less an increase in knowledge and more a shift in how they view their role.

“I conduct conversations more consciously. I listen more carefully. And I rethink responsibility.”

These voices highlight the core idea: experience is valuable, but development begins where experience alone is no longer sufficient. The programme does not focus on deficits, but strengthens the ability to continue evolving, even at an advanced level.

Competence that drives meaningful dialogue

Content-wise, the Certified Management Programme connects several key areas to create a holistic leadership development experience. It is not just about “management”, but about combining personality, leadership and business.

Learning within a network

Alongside individual outcomes, a strong peer network develops throughout the programme. Experiences are shared, perspectives broadened, and these connections remain beyond completion. In the international truck business, this shared learning becomes a decisive success factor: Not every challenge can be solved alone, but many can be understood together.

Conclusion

The Certified Management Programme demonstrates how modern leadership structures and culture can work today: practical, multidimensional and people-focused. Because success is not determined by content alone, but by the ability to turn it into meaningful and effective conversations.
