This too is Formation4You

When leadership needs rhythm and training sounds like music

Anyone familiar with Formation4You recognises its famous clarity, structure and impact. What many do not know though, is that behind these qualities lies not only methodological expertise, but also a strong musical foundation. In his youth, Hubert Ortner faced a decisive choice: music or business. Two passions that shaped him equally. The choice fell to business – a decision without which Formation4You would not exist today. Yet music has remained a key constant throughout the years. Every year he performs on stage with the Salonorchester Ortner and takes part in a New Year’s concert, which celebrates its twelfth edition this year. A fine tradition and far more than a hobby.

Because there is no divide between orchestral work and training, coaching or consulting. On the contrary: they follow the same essential inner principles.

An orchestra is not coincidence – nor is good collaboration

An orchestra does not function because each individual performs perfectly in isolation. It works because listening, timing, role awareness and shared alignment come together. The score gives orientation, but life emerges only in interaction. In our trainings and consulting processes, we encounter this same pattern:

  • Technical excellence alone is not enough
  • Without shared attitude, there is no sound
  • Without clear leadership, even strong talent loses impact

Leadership is not a solo – it is conducting

A good conductor does not play every part themselves. They create a framework, set impulses, read the room and respond to dynamics in the moment.
This is how we understand leadership and organisational development: not as the exercise of power, but as the conscious shaping of resonance.

This musical way of thinking deeply influences Formation4You’s work:

  • Rhythm rather than constant pressure
  • Pauses as productive elements
  • Fine-tuning rather than coarse control

Anyone who has seen an orchestra breathe together after a minimal gesture understands what we mean by effective leadership.

Training needs dramaturgy – like a concert

A concert is not a string of pieces. It tells a story, builds tension, creates space and ends with resonance. The same applies to learning and development.

Our trainings are therefore not collections of methods, but composed learning environments: clearly structured, emotionally engaging and with room for individual interpretation. This is how transfer is created – not through volume, but through coherence.

No contradiction. A stance.

That the managing director of Formation4You is also a musician is not a contradiction to professionalism. It is its source. Music trains perception, humility in the face of the collective and respect for difference – all abilities organisations need more urgently than ever today.

Put differently: those who have experienced what happens when many voices truly listen to one another bring this exact quality into companies, teams and leadership processes.

This too is Formation4You. And perhaps it is precisely this subtle, often invisible rhythm that makes the difference.
