Electrifying Sales Power
Cross-brand sales training on electromobility
The automotive industry is undergoing a profound transformation: electromobility is no longer just an option – it’s a key factor for the future. To guide its sales teams successfully through this transition, the multinational car manufacturer Stellantis has brought in the team from Formation4You to organize a cross-brand sales training program focused on electromobility.
The goal: to raise awareness among the group’s sales crew and sustainably boost electric vehicle sales.
The sales impact of Europe’s CO₂ targets
The EU has set clear emission limits for car manufacturers: Starting in 2025, the average CO₂ emissions of new vehicles sold by a manufacturer in the EU must not exceed 93.6 grams per kilometer. This target applies to the fleet average of all new cars sold in the EU and is measured according to the Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP).
The underlying European regulation, known as the CAFE Regulation (Corporate Average Fuel Emissions), is part of the EU’s broader climate policy. Its goal is to gradually reduce the average CO₂ emissions of vehicle fleets and to accelerate the shift towards zero-emission vehicles. Manufacturers that exceed the limit face a penalty of €95 for every gram of CO₂ above the threshold, per vehicle sold. Selling electric vehicles helps lower the average CO₂ output, as these vehicles are considered zero-emission.
Three Workshops for greater sales success
The EV training included three workshops that addressed the most important aspects of electromobility in the sales process:
EV-Technology
Electric Vehicle Technology refers to the technology that characterizes electric vehicles. It also includes aspects that are relevant for car salespeople, such as:
- Fewer wear parts for electric motors
 - Advances in battery technology
 - Charging options and costs
 - Driving characteristics due to the battery installation
 - Lower maintenance costs compared to traditional combustion engine vehicles

Range and charging solutions: at home and on the go
Many customers still have reservations about electric vehicles, especially regarding charging time and range. The salesperson’s task is to dispel these persistent myths: the sales team learned how battery capacity, driving style, and external conditions affect range, and how to address customer concerns through targeted education.
Another important topic in this context is the charging infrastructure. Customers often have questions about wallbox installation, using public charging stations, and the fast-charging capabilities of vehicles. Salespeople were trained to clearly explain different charging solutions and to present tailored options for individual customers.
Taxes, Incentives, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
A key selling point for electric vehicles is the financial benefits. This is where the concept of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) comes into play: Although electric cars have a higher purchase price, they are often cheaper than combustion engine vehicles over their entire lifecycle. The reasons for this include:
- Lower energy costs compared to gasoline and diesel
 - Lower maintenance requirements
 - Tax benefits and incentives
 - Other savings potential of electric vehicles, e.g., in insurance
